Dinosaur BBQ – Where have you been hiding these wings!

While it hasn’t even been a month since I last wrote about Dinosaur Barbecue in Troy, I have once again found myself there this past weekend for the NFC / AFC championship games.  This was mostly for the beer, but my friend Greg convinced me we needed to have the wings.  We had two varieties, the mild, which were free [woohoo!, or wait, was that cause the Jets lost…] and some wango tango, Dino’s version of hot.

I haven’t had a smoked barbecue wing before, but I’ve had barbecue wings.  With this in mind, I wasn’t expecting much.  My a sticky sweet sauce with a little heat, and a nicely crisped wing.  I was incredibly wrong.

For those that haven’t had a smoked winged, it’s an experience that lets you finally sit back and go, ‘Ah ha! This is what barbecue wings are supposed to be about’.  The wings at Dino are jumbo wings, smoked to perfection and then tossed in mild, a somewhat sticky sweet molasses sauce with a bit of kick, or hot, a sweet and spicy sauce evoking memories of habanero, brown sugar, and mustard.  Overall, they’re absolutely brilliant.  In addition to being perfectly cooked, they’re also really meaty, just 6 of them was enough to make me question ordering larger portions off they menu.  They also come with blue cheese and celery, which seems to exist exclusively to clean up the tasty wing sauce.

Seriously, if you’re at Dinosaur Barbecue, do not pass these wings up.
