Trailers, Trailers, Trailers: January 2009

December 29, 2008

Unfortunately for  2008, it had the wonderful privilege to go out with Marley and Me on top.  With any luck January 2009 will give something better to work with.  That is of course assuming the public doesn’t feel compelled to get another dose of Owen Wilson’s latest attempt to recover his career post Wedding Crashers.

So what looks best in January?

Taken

Release Date:  January 23rd

Starring: Liam Neeson

So here’s the run of the mill action suspense movie for the month.  Liam Neeson is looking pretty good, and his character can’t help but make you curious.  It’s a bit of the 24 syndrome in a way, but even so, it’s one of the more promising looking movies for January.

What else is good and what’s left

Something better to sink your fangs into

December 4, 2008

There’s a lot of buzz about Twilight and teenage vampires.  I wish I could say that I hadn’t heard about Twilight, but the fact of the matter is that I did.  From the moment I got past the intriguing cover to hear about who the book was targetted at, I hated it instantly.  Twilight, however, will receive a temporary reprieve from my deep desire to deadpan it, as I haven’t read the books [I won't] and I haven’t watched the movie [I will, so as to 1. ) confirm my suspicions, and 2.) be able to speak with credibility].  I recognize that the admission of my bias and loathing isn’t necessarily fair, and that it doesn’t help establish credibility, but quite frankly, tough shit.  When the fans of Twilight stop behaving like preteen and young teen girls did when Brittany Spears and N’Sync put out an album together [which was sold at McDonald's, classy], then they can complain.  What might be most upsetting though is that one of the arguably best films of the year, which also involves vampires, is going unnoticed.  I am of course referring to Let the Right One In.

Need a refresher? For Lily (has the trailer!)
